Introduction

Biomass power generation has the potential to play a key role in the future energy supply of the US, contributing to the sustainable development of the economy, agriculture and rural communities, whilst helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy imports.

According to the Biomass Producers Association, over 100 biomass power plants are connected to the electrical grid in the US (source: New York Times). The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates the total installed capacity of wood biomass power generation is 6,000 megawatts and predicts that this figure could double over the next 10 years.

With the recent extension of the production tax credit and the availability of the investment tax credit for biomass energy projects, exciting times lie ahead for the US biopower industry.

GreenPower’s 5th BioPower Generation conference will bring together leading experts from across the value chain to examine the latest developments in the biomass power generation industry.

  • What do recent policy developments mean for the biopower industry?
  • How does the economic efficiency of biopower compare with other renewable sources?
  • How can producers access financing in the current economic climate?
  • What are issues to consider in planning a biopower plant?
  • What is the potential for biopower in large scale power production?
  • What are the latest technologies to improve biopower efficiency?
  • How can sustainable feedstock supplies be guaranteed?
  • What are the latest developments in high yield energy crops?
  • What criteria are necessary for efficient transmission & distribution?
  • What opportunities does biopower offer the agricultural and forestry industries?
