The 2nd Carbon Markets & Climate Finance Turkey meeting attracted an audience of nearly 100 professionals from Europe, Africa and Asia to discuss and debate the latest policy developments and business opportunities in the Turkish carbon market and beyond. The meeting brought together Turkish government representatives, international organisations, energy utilities, project hosts and developers, financiers, lawyers and traders. The discussion initially focused on Turkey’s current position in the global carbon market and how it may develop through legislation and the contribution of industry and the private sector.
The spotlight then turned to the means of generating carbon project finance, the motivation and expectations of investors, the market for VERs created in Turkey and the future price of carbon credits. On the subject of pricing predictions and investment opportunities there was much interest and discussion as the audience shared its experiences, concerns and questions with the speaker panel. The meeting was concluded with case studies demonstrating successful methodologies in and beyond the Turkish market. Networking and relationship building was a significant feature of the meeting throughout, with the disparate market players and nationalities finding common ground in the pursuit of a vibrant and successful carbon market.
The Carbon Markets & Climate Finance series now moves on to Johannesburg in January and Sao Paulo in April, examining the status of the global carbon market in light of the outcome from COP 16.
