SEMARNAT
The conference will be opened by
Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada,
Secretary of the Environment, SEMARNAT, Mexico

Introduction

Following the success of last year’s event, Green Power Conferences are pleased to announce that the 2nd international Carbon Markets Mexico & Central America networking conference will take place in Mexico City.  In 2009 this event was attended by over 100 participants from 14 countries

The event will create a networking platform for the Mexican and Central American carbon market industry, policy makers and potential investors to examine growth strategies for the market as well as investment options and regional policy movements.

In 2009 Mexico ranked fourth in the world for the number of registered CDM projects and fifth in the world in Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).  Mexico has also identified over 100 larger-scale projects in the operating segments of PEMEX and CFE.  In Central America Honduras and Guatemala lead the take-up of CDM, followed by Panama, Costa Rica and El Salvador.  The region is ideally positioned to benefit from policy developments and to implement more projects.

Delegates will learn from best practice case studies from both mature and emerging markets and gain a clear understanding of the current regulatory framework, investment criteria, project start up requirements, CER credit production optimization and the progress of the region in preparation for COP16.

“I do want to say that our last attendance really launched our business.  Because of your conference, Luis and I (my business partner) made amazing contacts, who introduced us to wonderful people, and then things just began to grow.  We are very grateful for the hard work your organization has done and the services you provide. We are hopeful that we can attend the upcoming conference in Mexico” - A.A.S, Redd Trust
